Red Camel-Jordans.nl completed 23 hours of uninterrupted racing to become the first-ever winner of the TCR SPA 500.
WTCR race winner Pepe Oriola, who partnered with World Touring Car Championship legend Tom Coronel, and father-son duo Ivo and Rik Breukers, collected the chequered flag in the #101 CUPRA TCR after completing 454 laps of the 7.004km Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps.
There was excitement from the get-go as five teams, barely covered by 2s, battled for the lead during the first hour. With just two hours to go, a deluge hit the Ardennes circuit, sparking two race retirements and a shuffle of the order inside the final 10 minutes.
Only an intermittent traction control issue stunted a commanding race for Red Camel-Jordans.nl though, and the team simultaneously secured the EXO TCR Nations’ Trophy for The Netherlands.
“Everything went well, the car didn’t have any problems, the drivers made no mistakes, and the team did a brilliant job. That’s how you win endurance races!” a jubilant Tom Coronel explained post-race.
DG Sport Compétitionfinished 2nd on its maiden run with the ‘endurance’ Peugeot 308 TCR, while 24H SERIES stalwart TOPCAR sport by Bas Koeten Racing CUPRA TCR DSG completed the podium. Behind them, the Viper Niza Racing CUPRA finished 4th overall to collect PRO/AM victory, while Burton Racing secured the AM-class win with the Peugeot 308 TCR.
